5 Francs Charles X I Type
This 5-franc silver coin, known as the "Écu" 1er Type in the effigy of Charles X, was introduced by royal decree on May 1, 1825. This decision required the minting of four million francs in various denominations, but in the year 1824.
A notable specificity of this coin, produced between 1824 and 1826, is its slightly higher-than-standard silver titer of 903‰ instead of 900‰, with the addition of around 1% native gold alloyed with silver. Numerous private remakes during this period made these coins rarer than those struck between 1827 and 1830, known as the "Second Type".
Rarities :
The year 1824, marked by the "A" workshop in Paris, is particularly sought-after:
- Gold proof: Listed at €40,000 in FDC (Fleur de Coin) quality.
- Flan bruni: Estimated at €5,000 in FDC quality.
- Normal version: Valued at €500 in TTB (Very Very Good) condition.
This first series of 5 Franc Charles X coins is a precious testimony to the monetary transition of the period, particularly prized for its variants and superior quality.
