La 2 Francs Napoléon III Tête Laurée. Cette monnaie de 2 francs Napoléon III a vu le jour après la publication du décret du 2 décembre 1852, lors de l’instauration du Second Empire (1852-1870) sous le règne de Napoléon III. Elle a été retirée de la circulation le 1er octobre 1868, conformément au décret du 17 juin 1868. Plus de 1,9 million d’exemplaires ont été frappés dans trois ateliers monétaires distincts.

Une variante exceptionnelle existe pour cette pièce : une version « épreuve », frappée non pas en argent mais en or. Le nombre précis d’exemplaires de cette édition est inconnu, ce qui en fait un véritable objet de collection, avec une cotation atteignant 17 000 € en état SUP (Supérieur).
Une autre pièce rare est celle de la dernière année de production, la 2 francs 1859, frappée exclusivement à Paris, avec une quantité très limitée de 894 exemplaires. Son prix peut atteindre 12 000 € en état SUP, faisant d’elle une pièce très convoitée par les numismates.

Avers :
L’avers représente le portrait de Napoléon III portant une couronne de laurier, tourné vers la gauche. L’inscription « NAPOLEON III EMPEREUR » entoure son effigie, avec la signature du graveur Jean-Jacques Barre sous le cou.
Revers :
Le revers affiche la valeur faciale « 2 FRANCS », entourée d’une couronne de laurier et de chêne, avec l’année d’émission et le différent de l’atelier en bas. L’inscription « EMPIRE FRANÇAIS » figure en haut de la pièce.
