Different currencies
In numismatics, monetary differences are a personal mark placed on a coin by the engraver and/or the director of a monetary workshop or by the general engraver. Each workshop director has his own distinctive signature, as shown in our tables and those of the general engravers.
From the Middle Ages onwards, the use of different denominations became essential to help combat counterfeiters and to identify the person responsible for issuing or engraving the coin.
Engravers often got into the habit of signing their corners with a piece of bravery that was all the more difficult to achieve because it was as tiny and detailed as possible.
The use of these coins has continued, and even today, different denominations exist on euros, although they no longer help to protect them from counterfeiting.
