The West African CFA franc, a common currency inherited from colonial times, is the official currency of the eight member states of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA): Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo.
