Crown, the currency of the Czech Republic
The Czech Crown has been the national currency of the Czech Republic since 1993. In the Czech language, its symbol is Kč.
The Czech crown replaced the Czechoslovak crown in the Czech Republic in 1993, following the dissolution of Czechoslovakia.
The Czech Republic is a member of the European Union, but as it is not a member of the European Monetary Union, the Czech currency is the country's sole legal tender. The euro cannot be used as a means of payment in shops.
The euro may replace the Czech koruna when the Czech Republic meets the criteria for admission to the European Exchange Rate Mechanism, and if it so requests (one of the main parties is currently opposed).
